ABOUT US
The Pocono Mountain Ecumenical Hunger Ministry began in 1986 when a group of churches, ministries and
organization recognized the need to supply emergency food for the needy in our area. We are a 501c3 organization
manned solely by VOLUNTEERS providing food from 250 to 300 families EACH and EVERY month and over 300 food
baskets at Christmas and Thanksgiving.
Our volunteers work tirelessly by processing paperwork, packing food bags, sorting donated food items,
stock pantry shelves, maintain the physical plant of the pantry, help clients out to their cars with the groceries
and assist to special needs of our ministry.
Food and funding come to the pantry in a number of different ways…… through donations from our member
organizations and ministries and private individuals. The pantry does receive food from the U.S. Department
of Agriculture and funding is also provided through the State of Pennsylvania.
Any donation is requested to be "shelf stable" canned and/or boxed food items within the "use by" date.
Fresh or frozen donations are requested by calling for an appointment at:
570-894-2072 and leave a message. The phone is monitored daily.
Hunger in the United States
36.3 Million people including 13 million children live in households that experience hunger or the risk of
hunger on an ongoing basis. The represents more than 10% of households in the United States.
The Pocono Mountain Ecumenical Hunger Ministry is providing a small part in helping to address this issue.
